A second model with a 5.5-inch or 5.6-inch screen will then follow in September, it is claimed.

The publication also suggests that a total of 80 million iPhone 6 handsets will be produced this year.

A recent leak of the upcoming smartphone's case suggests that a 4.7-inch model is boundbut hints that it could also feature a slimmer design and a repositioned power button.

Meanwhile, an internal Apple presentation - revealed at the legal battle between the company and Samsung - indicates that a larger iPhone could be launched. In the presentation, the Apple speaker states "consumers want what we don't have".

The Cupertino firm recently announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place in San Francisco between June 2 and 6, where it is tipped to showcase its iOS 8 mobile operating system.
