How to Have a Life on a Busy Schedule

Whether you work outside the home, inside the home or both, you may have little time for yourself amidst your work, family and household chores. Use these strategies to enjoy your life and fill it with memorable moments even as you're keeping up the hectic pace.

Instructions

    • 1
Make an appointment with yourself in advance as a trick to ensure you get some down time each week. If you don't slot a spot to spend the day goofing off with your kids or going to lunch with your significant other, you probably won't do it once your appointment book is full.
    • 2
Sacrifice an item on your "to do" list if an opportunity for fun or relaxation presents itself. If a friend invites you to the movies at the last minute, for example, be flexible enough to let the laundry sit for an extra day or complete your project when you get home that night instead of tackling it in the afternoon.
      • Examine you and your family's goals to discover your priority activities and drop the rest. If you're over scheduled and rushing to fit meals, activities, homework and work in before bedtime, consider asking each person to give up at least one thing to give yourselves more time to relax together.
      • 4
Use your lunch break at work to have a bit of "me time." Take advantage of that hour to get a manicure, picnic in the park or window shop at the mall. You can even catch up on a few errands so you'll have more free time to spend with the kids or your significant other after work.
      • 5
Eliminate as many unnecessary errands as possible to make more time for yourself. If you're out of your child's favourite cereal, for example, feed him another breakfast food until grocery day rather than making a special trip just for just a few items.
