Apple's iOS 8 will be available to download in the UK from around 6pm this evening (September 17).
The updated mobile operating system is compatible with iPhone 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, iPod Touch fifth generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina Display, iPad Air, iPad Mini and iPad Mini with Retina Display.
iOS 8, which will come pre-installed on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, brings new features including interactive notifications, family sharing on iTunes and additional photo editing tools.
The software also introduces a time-lapse video mode and a Continuity system that ensures iOS devices running the latest update will offer improved cross-connectivity with Mac OS X machines.
Siri refinements enable users to call upon the personal assistant without the aid of physical controls, while the new health applications expand the software's fitness-tracking potential.
"iOS 8 comes with big updates to apps you use every day, like Messages and Photos. A whole new way to share content with your family, and exciting new connections between apps and between devices," said Apple in a statement.
"All that and more make iOS 8 the biggest iOS release ever."
