YouTube celebrates 10 years since it was founded

YouTube is celebrating ten years since it was founded.

The video-sharing giant was created by three former PayPal employees Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim on February 14, 2005.

Although the domain youtube.com was registered on this date, the first video was not uploaded until April 23, which was an 18-second clip of Karim at a zoo.

Yakov Lapitsky, who shot the video, told Daily News that he doesn't remember much from that day.

"I didn't think much of it other than it was pretty adorable," he said.

Hurley has also marked the occasion on Twitter, saying: "10 years ago, on this day, I registered a domain... @YouTube. :)"

Google, who bought the site for $1.65 billion in 2006, will celebrate the site's 10th anniversary in May when YouTube first opened its doors to the public in beta.
