British Airways have taken delivery of their first 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft which is 20 feet longer than the previous 787-8 versions.
The first of BA's 22 aircraft arrived at Heathrow last week, after a nine-hour flight from Seattle, with its first commercial flight scheduled for October 25 when it will start flying to Delhi. A further three 787-9s will arrive before the end of the year. After Delhi, the next routes to be introduced for the 216-seater aircraft, will be Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Kuala Lumpur and Austin.
Previously most First class cabins have 14 seats, however, the 787-9’s luxury offering will seat just eight customers, allowing for more space and additional perks, including a smartphone-controlled in-flight entertainment system, with a 23-inch screen.
A First ticket to Delhi is from £3,270, with an economy ticket costing from £632.
A time lapse video has been produced here showing the build of a 787-9 and includes shots of the massive Dream Lifter aircraft delivering body sections for the 787-9.
