FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR BLOG AGAIN

Whether you’ve been blogging for months or years, blogging can be relentless at times and it’s not uncommon to fall out of love with your little bit of the internet. Here are 5 steps to rekindle to romance and fall in love with your blog again…

Fall in love with your blog again

1. Write for yourself

We need to be excited about what we write about or we will fall out of love with it. It will also show in our work and people will stop enjoying it.

2. Don’t write content

Kind of follows on from 1 because “nobody does content for the joy of their soul” and as Maria puts it, thinking of your work as content has icky connotations!

3. Read

“You cannot hope to sweep someone else away by the force of your writing until it has been done to you.” Stephen King

Explore. Be a fan! Get blown away and inspired by someone else’s work…it’s the only way to be able to do 1! Austin Kleon’s book, Steal like an Artist has some great advice for where to get started and you can share your inspiration on your blog as you go.

4. Do something you love for YOU

And not for your blog! According to Emma Stone this is the best advice Bill Murray gave her:

“Bill Murray told me to keep some things I love just for me. The idea is to have some things that you don’t feel like you need to share with the world. To have some things that are only yours.”

This is probably even more pertinent for bloggers, we can be an over-sharing bunch at times but that can leave us feeling empty.

5. Stop Judging Yourself

Life is a bunch of cycles. Sometimes we feel like we’re in the Premiere seats at the Odeon, holding hands with a hottie, watching the best film ever with unlimited popcorn. Other times the seats aren’t great, you’re on your own, the film’s a bit naff and there’s no popcorn. That’s OK. Be mindful of how you feel, be compassionate to yourself and keep working through it.

Have you ever fallen out of love with blogging? How did you get out of the rut?
