No Matter How Many Times You’ve Seen Titanic You’ll Have Missed This Heartbreaking Story

Titanic is truly an iconic film. It’s full of romance, danger, tragedy, and it will make you cry like a baby. Almost everyone has seen Titanic, and everyone knows the love story of Jack and Rose. But is that the only love story in the film? I think not.

James Cameron’s most iconic piece of work was released almost 20 years ago, first appearing on our screens back in 1997. It was a cinematic wonder and became the main focusing point in almost every young woman’s fantasy. I mean, who doesn’t want to steam up an old fashion car? Throughout the film, we focused on the relationship between Jack and Rose. They had a quick and unfortunately short-lived romance together, all because Rose didn’t know how to share!
Jack and Rose were perfectly played by the amazing Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio, but did you spot the other love story hidden in the movie?
While many people focus on the young, bold, and brave love between Jack and Rose, many people forget about this couple.
This shot was in the original trailer, and it defiantly knows how to grab your attention. And old couple spooning in bed as the cold icy water storms into their room. It’s incredibly tragic to see, but at the same time, it manages to pull on your heart strings…
But, what most people don’t know is that the elderly couple in bed are actually based on a real couple that did die on the Titanic, and they also owned the Macy’s Department Store.
While Isidor and Ida Straus may be long gone, their legacy still lives on all across the United States of America. The pair created the first ever Macy store, but that’s not what’s the most impressive thing about their life. What’s most impressive is the love shared between them.

The couple was inseparable, which was rather uncommon at the time they were married. The pair took their wedding vows very seriously, particularly ’till death do us part’.
The pair boarded the Titanic on their way back from Germany in 1912. Unfortunately, they never made it back home.
When the ship began to sink, both Straus were offered a spot on a lifeboat. Isidor refused because it meant a woman and a child lost a spot on the lifeboat. Ida wouldn’t get on the lifeboat without her husband, so they were resolute to end their lives.
The pair were last seen on deck, sitting in chairs and holding hands while everyone else was panicking about the sinking ship. Isidor’s body was eventually recovered, but Ida’s was never found.
