Radio 2 announces repeats for mornings, new live After Midnight show

Ben Cooper, controller of Radio 1 & 1Xtra, said: "These cuts to our budget are hurting, it means I have had to make some tough choices and say goodbye to some friends and respected colleagues. I believe these new schedules continue to innovate, reflect and celebrate the UK's youth and music culture."

In the absence of the departed DJs, Daniel P Carter will host a new three-hour Rock Show, running from 7pm to 10pm, following immediately afterThe Official Chart with Jameela Jamil.

Other alterations include the addition of a new weekend afternoon show hosted by Alice Levine (1pm to 4pm), and a weekday night show hosted by Huw Stephens from 10pm to 1am, which will celebrate young talent from across Britain and Northern Ireland.

Stephens said: "Night-time is a special time at Radio 1, and there is a strong tradition of supporting new artists, so I am delighted to be presenting a new show that will play excellent music and champion BBC Introducing artists as we end the day together."

There is also a new slot for duo Dan & Phil, who will host a one-hour show at 9pm on Mondays.

The changes for Radio 1Xtra mean it will welcome a new weekday evening show presented by Monki as well as new shows for Sian Anderson on Wednesday and Seani B on Thursdays.
