A BlackBerry was the only phone you wanted a decade ago, but things haven't been going so well for the QWERTY-loving smartphone maker in recent years.

Just a few long, painful years after falling behind the likes of Apple, Samsung and HTC in the smartphone pecking order (oh, and LG, Sony, OnePlus and, well, pretty much everyone else really), BlackBerry has confirmed that it has made its last ever handset.
WhatsApp BlackberryHaving failed to move with the times since the dawn of the iPhone - and now sitting leagues behind the new iPhone 7 - BlackBerry has confirmed that it will no longer manufacture any new hardware of any variety.
Although just because BlackBerry won't be making its own phones moving forward doesn't mean we won't still see BlackBerry branding popping up on new devices from time to time though, oh no.
Instead, any future BlackBerry-branded smartphones will be pieced together by third-parties, with Alcatel expected to be first in line to produce the firm's next business-centric smart blower.
"We are focusing on software development, including security and applications," BlackBerry CEO and executive chairman John Chen said of the move. "The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners."
While the move is hardly a surprising one, it's sure to bring a pang of nostalgia to those who previously owned a BlackBerry handset.
