Thought of the Day: Spiritual Change Skill

Image
There is nothing more certain than that the world will continue to change. Accepting and not resisting this, is the first and most important inner skill in this frenetically changing, modern world. Life tests us every day to see how well we have developed this ability. Equally, there is nothing more real than the inner space within each of us that never ever changes. We may change our thoughts, our feelings, even our sense of who we are, but we fail to visit the unchanging centre of our own self. The ability to be in this inner space, where our peace is found, when all around would prefer chaos and crisis, is the deepest spiritual change skill. It is the eye of the storm, it is the oasis in the desert, it is the place where peace is power. Call in today. You’ll be surprised how much it can influence and change everything and everyone around you!

Sextortion: it’s more common than you think.

Image
What it is and what parents can do to help prevent and stop it Not long ago, making prank calls was the worst trouble a group of teens could get into with a telephone. But today, predators use phones to stalk and blackmail teens on social media and dating apps. Sextortion — the act of threatening to share nude or explicit images — is more common than you may think, and cases affecting young children, teens and adults have increased exponentially in the past two years. In fact, Homeland Security Investigations received over 3,000 sextortion tips in fiscal year 2022. One current sextortion trend targets boys between 14 and 17 years old. Adult predators pretending to be young girls feign romantic interest in the boys on gaming platforms, apps and social media sites. It starts simply enough: A teen responds to an online request to expose parts of their body on a webcam or send a nude photo to a new online “friend.” The next thing the teen knows, their new friend threatens to expose t...

Thought of the Day: Understanding

Image
A big-hearted soul does not sentence others on the basis of a single act, but appreciates others through understanding their entire journey.

Thought of the Day: Love Emerges

Image
When I combine good wishes with the words I speak, love emerges. Whatever is spoken with love is free from selfishness and negativity and has a powerful effect on others.  Only words spoken out of love can bring about change in others- and in myself.

Moments in Time: In Memoriam Vangelis

Image
The Greek composer and musician Evangelos Papathanassiou passed away in Paris last year. Better known as   Vangelis , the award-winning musician and beloved film-score composer. Obituaries and the programs of his life abounded against the fact. A career of over fifty years, and not one that could be characterized easily; Vangelis floated through genres, as he roamed from place to place, picking up and discarding forms in the search for the sound he is now remembered for. Papathanassiou began his musical career in his home country, forming the band  Forminx in the early 60s. A rock-n-roll band that was through by the mid 60’s. With the political turmoil of the 1967 Greek Coup, Papathanassiou debarked to Paris in search of the new, and he found it in the Prog-rock band  Aphrodite’s Child . Finding success with the band would ultimately lead to its dissolution as Papathanassiou began to abhor the structured program of show business, admitting that “you have to do something l...

Thought of the Day: Enjoy Everything You Do

Image
Most of our time goes into pleasing others and making them happy. Often despite our best efforts we find that people do not appreciate what we have done. When we have tried hard to please someone we feel disheartened and upset. Whatever I do is for myself. When I recognize this fact, I will never do anything just to please others. When I am content with the effort I put in, I will never be dependent on others’ recognition of what I have done. When I enjoy everything I do, I will be truly happy. The more content I am, the more others will start appreciating my effort.

Thought of the Day: The Power of Thoughts

Image
Thoughts are more powerful than actions because they are the creators of actions. You have to keep in mind that the thought-waves of your good wishes and pure feelings, your vibrations of peace and love, can once again bring harmony in nature and happiness in the world.

Thought of the Day: Less Is More

A rich person is not someone who has more, but someone who desires less.

Thought of the Day: Silence Calms Your Heart

Image
Silence calms your heart. It is a balm that heals the wounds of the soul. It strengthens the spirit and takes you to a world without sound where peace reigns.

Improving mood and treating pain with Cymbalta

Image
You've probably seen the commercials. Beautiful piano music plays and a montage of warm cinematography of people in various situations rolls while a woman's voice describes that depression hurts. But what is  Cymbalta , and what does it do? Also known as  duloxetine , brand name  Cymbalta  is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor used to treat depression. It is also used in the treatment of fibromyalgia, chronic muscle and joint pain and pain caused by diabetic nerve damage. Let's discuss some things you should know before taking Cymbalta. How does Cymbalta work? Cymbalta, or Duloxetine, controls the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine. Serotonin controls mood, gastrointestinal function and pain perception, amongst other physical functions. Norepinephrine is both a hormone and a neurotransmitter, and aids in the "fight-or-flight" reaction while also setting our biological response to stress. This includes pain percept...

Thought of the Day: Lightness

Image
Lightness is like hitting a spring of water inside. A sudden break out from the dryness of your normal reactions as you begin to express from within, rather than just responding to what you see outside. It usually happens when you come upon a quality that hasn’t been destroyed or jaded by time, something very old and inherent in you that has survived. Most qualities and talents are developed through use, but are also in some way diluted and changed. Lightness is touching what makes you unique, because it has never changed.

Trazodone: Antidepressant, sleeping pill or both?

Image
Although trazodone was designed to treat depression and anxiety disorders, the medication is now widely prescribed as a nighttime sleep aid What is trazodone? Trazodone was developed in Italy in the 1960s as an antidepressant medication. Due to negative side effects associated with the drug early on—including dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat (and in rare cases, priapism in men)—the antidepressant wasn’t widely favored in the medical community. Eventually, however, internists and clinicians recognized potential benefits of the drug, particularly when administered at low doses. In 1981, trazodone (the generic name of the pharmaceutical) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the brand name Desyrel for use in treating major depressive disorder. Today, the medication is prescribed under the brand name Oleptro to treat sleep disorders such as insomnia as well as anxiety disorder and unipolar depression. Does trazodone cause sleepiness? For many patie...
