Death Stranding - PS4 Review

Image
First Released Nov 8, 2019 America is broken, and it's up to you to put it back together again. It's a tall order. A lot of people believe in it, but you're not sure you do. It'll take a lot of lonely, dangerous walks and exceptionally heavy lifting, and it's not really clear what America means in the first place. For some reason, you set out anyway, trudging through wetlands and rocky hills on foot, not fully knowing or understanding where you're going. Other than the monsters you can't quite see, there's not really anyone else around most of the time--just you and your thoughts, one foot in front of the other. On one level, Death Stranding is about America. But your actual goal in setting out across the country is to help people, bring them together, and forge connections, not for the vague concept of America but for the sake of helping the people within it. Death Stranding is unrelenting in its earnestness and optimism--certainly not without ...

Thought of the Day 2020 Day 8: Go Deep

Image
Most of us think too much, especially about events and people, local and global, famous and not so famous. When we are always thinking about what is happening on the surface of life, the visible, then it is as if we are living a superficial life. And when two people who both live on the surface meet, the exchange, the conversation, is superficial, sometimes totally bereft of meaning. Often it leaves us totally unsatisfied. And as we share news of our surface observations, we come to know our own superficiality, but we are not strong enough to resist it. Deep down inside there is a voice, a longing, a calling to depth. It’s our heart, reminding us to visit, explore and express the depths of our ourselves. Everyone has depth but we confuse the heart with emotion, and forget that emotion is the result of getting too close to events on the surface. So one of our deepest needs, which is to go in deep, is seldom satisfied. Going deep and being deep requires time spent in solitude, s...

Keeping Children Safe Online

Image
What unique risks are associated with children? When a child is using your computer, normal safeguards and security practices may not be sufficient. Children present additional challenges because of their natural characteristics: innocence, curiosity, desire for independence, and fear of punishment. You need to consider these characteristics when determining how to protect your data and the child. You may think that because the child is only playing a game, or researching a term paper, or typing a homework assignment, they can't cause any harm. But what if, when saving their paper, the child deletes a necessary program file? Or what if they unintentionally visit a malicious web page that infects your computer with a virus? These are just two possible scenarios. Mistakes happen, but children may not realize what they've done or may not tell you what happened because they're afraid of getting punished. Online predators present another significant threat, partic...

Stagecoach unveils its 20:20 Vision

Image
The Stagecoach rebrand has broken cover overnight. The red, blue and orange ‘beachball’ logo with italicised ‘Stagecoach’ name has been wiped away. In its place is a re-worked roundel which gives a nod to the ‘beachball’ variant. It is a more stylised tri-colour version with the three coloured segments appearing to have been designed to represent a wheel rather than a ‘beachball’ - although Stagecoach has never actually used the ‘beachball’ description at a corporate level. The ‘Stagecoach’ text is in a ‘normal’ style. The new logo uses different shades of blue and orange but also includes green. The green appears to be the same shade as used on the recently delivered tri-axle Enviro 400XLBs for the Cambridge Busway. Supporting the new logo is a new livery, or rather a livery family. Details of the liveries have been kept under wraps but were launched overnight and include a standard version in white which includes all three colours from the logo palate. A further version of white wi...
