Thought of the Day: Silence Is Gold

Image
If speech is silver, silence is gold. When you must speak, speak a few words, speak sweetly and softly. That is the way to reach a listener’s heart.

Moments in Time: Rugby World in Union

Image
This Moment in Time is the lyrics & video to one of my favourite classical tracks of all time. Enjoy and don't forget to Share a Wise Word or Two There’s a dream, I feel   So rare, so real All the world in union The world as one Gathering together One mind, one heart Every creed, every colour Once joined, never apart Searching for the best in me I will find what I can be If I win, lose or draw It’s a victory for all It’s the world in union The world as one As we climb to reach our destiny A new age has begun We may face high mountains Must cross rough seas We must take our place in history And live with dignity Just to be the best I can That’s the goal for every man If I win, lose or draw It’s a victory for all It’s the world in union The world as one As we climb to reach our destiny A new age has begun It’s the world The world in union A new age has begun

Top Gear review: Chris Evans's reboot looks stunning but lacks the comic punch of Clarkson

Image
Well, it's finally here. After months of alleged arguments and controversies, Chris Evans finally unleashed his vision for  Top Gear  in a post-Jeremy Clarkson world. And he'll be hoping he'll be more Jose Mourinho than Louis Van Gaal as he takes on such a daunting task. The first episode in this new era was a strange affair. In many respects it was a pale imitation of the previous hosts' popular show, and in others it was a very enjoyable programme about cars. It just depends what you're here for. From the opening pow of the 'Jessica' theme tune, to Evans's bizarre Clarkson impression in the intro, it just felt like they were trying too hard to copy what came before them. Clarkson, Hammond and May were like capturing lightning in a bottle. They were a perfect team. ©    BBC But then again, Chris was in a tight spot. Having taken over  Top Gear , it's not as if he could just launch a completely new show. He'd piss everyone off ...

New Chris Evans-fronted Top Gear kicks off with a reference to Jeremy Clarkson firing

Image
Sunday night (May 29) saw the much-anticipated relaunch of  Top Gear  finally hit our screens, but it wasn't too long before new presenter Chris Evans was faced with a reference to one of his predecessors, Jeremy Clarkson. Introducing the first segment, Evans directed the audience towards "the guys and girls from his local Indian restaurant". So far so good. But then he opened up a question to the audience, asking: "Anybody got any idea why these guys are here?" Someone did, and responded with: "New caterers!" ©    Getty Images   Barcroft Media The comment was a quick reference to Clarkson's firing, which saw him suspended, and then eventually fired for punching  Top Gear  producer Oisin Tymon after he was told there was no hot food available after a day of filming. Evans didn't miss a note though, quickly responding with a cheeky: "By the way, we don't talk about catering on this show anymore." Well pla...

Thought of the Day: Introspection

Image
Introspection is the attitude of going inside when it’s necessary. It is especially applicable before a task or a busy day. The result of going inside is peace and calmness, which gives clarity to the intellect for making right decisions. Introspection does not mean avoiding the world, it means going inside and getting empowered to act along with others.

Thought of the Day: Spiritual tolerance cultivates innate wisdom

Image
Tolerance is based on going beyond the superficial things that  divide us.  It’s the result of turning within and coming to know the self. If I can deal with my own ego, then my own anger can be resolved. This goes a long way in resolving external issues too. With my own ego out of the way, I will be able to handle anything! Otherwise it’s just the same old  thing – you versus me, yours versus mine, etc. – intolerance. If I’m unselfish and honest in my heart and am concerned about others’ needs, then I will be full enough to give. When you know the self in this way, then you can know others. “I should be understood” changes to “I should understand”. Not ” They should change”, but “I will give what’s needed”. Patience, peace and maturity develop. Spiritual tolerance cultivates innate wisdom, the kind you can’t get from books.

Thought of the Day: Thought Power

Image
Through our thoughts, we are either gaining power or losing it. With pure thoughts power is generated, and with impure thoughts power is destroyed. Pure thoughts are those that express our spiritual personality, impure thoughts are all the others. They have nothing to do with our truth. Thought is the vehicle which takes us from our non-spiritual self to our truth.

Thought of the Day: Paper Tiger

Image
See every problem as something small and turn a mountain into a paper tiger.

Thought of the Day: Celebration

Image
Everyday is a celebration because instead of waiting for happy endings, we open our eyes to the wonder of life, to see the humour and magic in each moment. Delighted in the way things turn out, amazed at the beauty of it all.

Thought of the Day: Garden of your Mind

Image
The most important part of you is your mind. Care for your mind, make friends with it, always feed it healthy food, engage it in positive activity, exercise it with knowledge and wisdom. Like a garden returns fragrance and beauty according to the care invested, so your mind will repay you with thoughts, ideas and visions of great beauty when tended and invested with care.

9 Famous People Who Overcame Major Failure

Image
You know these famous people by their many successes...but what you might not know is that they failed greatly first. Failure is often misunderstood as quality for the weak and doomed, but more times than not, failure is the very driving force behind the strong and successful.  You know these famous people by their many successes...but what you might not know is that they failed greatly first.  If there is anything that their inspiring stories can teach us it is this:  NEVER GIVE UP.  Walt Disney “All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me...You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” -Walt Disney   The man behind the happiest place on earth was fired by the editor of a newspaper because he "lacked imagination and had no good ideas."  He then started a number of businesses that failed and ended with bankruptcy. ...

Thought of the Day: Laws Of Success

Image
The greatest mistake – Giving up. The greatest crippler – Fear. The greatest handicap – Ego. The most potent force – Positive. The greatest thought – God. The greatest victory – Victory over the self. 0 1

Thought of the Day: Write Often

Image
I make it a point to write something every day, even if it’s only to myself. In fact, it is mostly to myself. How else do I get to know me? And how else do I get to know what I know until I hear what I have to say? The most important conversation in all our worlds is with ourselves. One way to converse is to take two words and then let your mind flow into them, around them and through them, and then out through your pen on to a blank white page. It doesn’t matter what comes -but be sure that you will reveal yourself to yourself, and if you keep doing it I can guarantee you will be astounded by revelation. Start your journal today.

Thought of the Day: Original Peace

Image
It is not necessary to search for peace. It is within. Your original state is one of peace. External situations will pull you away from your peace. If, that is, you let them. Internal feelings can also pull you away. Tiredness, for example, leads to irritability. Learn to be in charge of yourself and maintain your peace: centre your awareness on your spiritual form – a tiny star-like point of light, seated in the middle of your forehead. Really experience the difference between You the Sparkling Star, and your body, the physical vehicle. Learn to detach yourself from the vehicle. Even a few moments of this practice, if done regularly, will return you to your natural state of peace. Tiredness will vanish. Irritability too. And your actions will be filled with love – for the self and others.

40 Years of InterCity 125

Image
Thousands of rail enthusiasts descended on a railway depot in Bristol recently to celebrate 40 years of the High Speed Train and taking centre stage was the man who designed it. Sir Kenneth Grange was at St Philip's Marsh depot to unveil a power car named after him and painted in the train's original yellow, blue and grey livery. More than 3,500 people bought tickets to the event to see Sir Kenneth, whose designs also include the first parking meters, food mixers and the Kodak Instamatic camera. The 86-year-old designer said: "I am thrilled and absolutely honoured to be here." "I started work in railways in the 1950s, back when I was a young designers. Many of those before me were giving the young designers a chance to shine. "I was very lucky to be part of that group, and thankful. It is a wonderful industry to be involved with." Speaking of having a locomotive named after him he said: "It doesn't happen to many people, and when it does, ...

The Benefits of Reborn Dolls

The first moment that you hold a  Reborn Doll  in your hands is difficult to define; it is a curious mixture of elation, nostalgia and amazement, to think that a doll can elicit the same emotions you feel when holding a newborn in your arms for the first time. A baby, newborn or Reborn, can bring forward waves of emotion. Those who have given birth can recall those first precious moments, while those who have simply always loved children can let their imagination fly. The expression, skin and weight of a Reborn is so realistic, one instantly feels a strong sense of protectiveness. It is, therefore, no surprise to learn that for many years, dolls have been used as a therapeutic aid for persons with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease or people with depression. Body of Evidence Thus far, there is a rich body of evidence to indicate the important role dolls (both stuffed toys and dolls) can play in aiding those with dementia who are living in residential care. As fa...

3 Keys to Realizing Your Dreams and Goals

Image
“Don’t be pushed by your problems; be led by your dreams.” ~Unknown When it comes to  manifesting our dreams  and accomplishing our goals, there are three vital components that deserve our attention. Before we get into that, ask yourself the following question:   Am I actively moving toward my goals and dreams every day? Everybody has dreams and most people have goals. If you want your goals and dreams to become reality, you must move toward them consistently and purposefully. By nature, we always begin with distance between where we are and where we want to be. Our job is to narrow that distance until it no longer exists. To accomplish that, we need to draw our goals and dreams closer to us, while simultaneously moving toward them. Some people attempt to attract their goals without taking much action. Others choose to act on their goals, but without the added advantage of also drawing those goals to them. Action alone can bring positive resul...
