Apple replaces 'Free' label with 'Get' on iTunes and Mac App Store

Apple has seemingly bowed to pressure from the European Commission and removed the 'Free' download label from use.

Although free-to-play games and apps from iTunes and the Mac App Store remain free, the download button now reads 'Get'.

The EC raised concerns over labelling of downloads via iTunes and Google Play earlier this year, fearing children are being targeted and consumers are being misled.

Google immediately pledged to change the way so-called 'freemium' apps are listed and has since replaced the tag with 'Install'.

At the time the EU said: "Regrettably, no concrete and immediate solutions have been made by Apple to date to address the concerns linked in particular to payment authorisation."

Apple responded by saying: "Over the last year we made sure any app which enables customers to make in-app purchases is clearly marked. We've also created a Kids Section on the App Store with even stronger protections to cover apps designed for children younger than 13."
