Microsoft could be discontinuing Internet Explorer in favour of a new web browser referred to as 'Spartan'.
The next-generation software will be faster than the latest versions of Internet Explorer and resemble Google Chrome, according to ZDNET.
Microsoft has been tipped to unveil 'Spartan' alongside the first consumer build of Windows 10 on January 21.
The computing firm is expected to gradually phase out Internet Explorer, with early editions of the new operating system shipping with both browsers to ensure compatibility with all websites.
Designed to work across multiple platforms, Windows 10 combines enterprise functionality with consumer features.
A Technical Preview Programme has already been launched (which I am currently testing), while a full release of Windows 10 is not expected until late 2015.
