EastEnders boss on anniversary: 'Fans want to see live episode mistakes'

EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins
EastEnders executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins believes that viewers will be disappointed if nothing goes wrong during the live episode this week.

As part of the BBC soap's 30th anniversary celebrations, all of the episodes airing this week will include live elements, while Friday's 30-minute episode will be fully live.

Treadwell-Collins told The Guardian: "I probably shouldn't say this but I think probably we have to accept that audiences will be slightly disappointed if nothing goes wrong.

"Obviously we will do everything to make sure it doesn't but the possibility is there. It becomes like a performance of a play - lines can be slipped and cues missed. But that's part of the live experience."

Treadwell-Collins also revealed that Lucy Beale's killer will confess to the crime in a different way to how Stacey Branning confessed to murdering Archie Mitchell in 2010's live episode.

Viewers will instead see a "few conversations" take place during the episode, as the 10-month murder mystery finally unravels.

He said: "It does make it more difficult. With Archie, it was a one-line reveal, but with this one it's more complicated. There are a few conversations."

EastEnders kicks off its anniversary celebrations tomorrow (February 17) at 7.30pm.
