Moments in Time: Parkeon – Delivering the Benefits of ITSO Across Britain

BUS operators across Great Britain are benefiting from the advanced ITSO ticketing solutions developed by Parkeon.

Parkeon remains the only ticketing technology company involved in every major ITSO scheme in progress or under development in Britain and recently added a second ticketing platform – the Wayfarer 200 ETM – to its fully certified range of ITSO compliant on-bus systems, which also includes the Wayfarer 150 platform.
The certification is all the more significant because the Wayfarer 200, which is currently being installed in ITSO schemes in Scotland and across the West Midlands, is an open platform that acts as a true systems integrator for a multiplicity of on-vehicle applications.
The Parkeon contract with Centro, the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority, will see ticket machines and associated back office technologies supplied to over 20 operators across the region.
This latest achievement confirms that Parkeon, with its range of Wayfarer ticket machines and card readers, data transfer systems and back office functionality, remains at the forefront of ITSO progress. Its technology has already proven its worth in millions of ITSO transactions and is playing a key role in the implementation of the National Concessionary Travel Scheme in England and similar programmes in Scotland and Wales.
One of Britain’s most successful ITSO projects is in the North West of England, where Blackpool Transport and NoWcard launched the world’s first network-wide ITSO scheme. NoWcard is a complex project involving 1,800 buses, multiple operators and several councils. It runs around 1.7 million ITSO transactions every month, all handled by Parkeon’s advanced Wayfarer ticketing technology.
The company is also a key technology partner in the Transport Scotland Project, working with major bus operators such as Lothian Buses and National Express Dundee to deliver the ITSO concessionary smartcard programme, opening up improved access to unlimited Scotland-wide free travel on buses at any time of the day.
In addition, Parkeon is the key ITSO ticketing technology partner with scheme operators in Cheshire, Nottinghamshire, Hampshire, Yorkshire and across Wales.
Parkeon, through Wayfarer technology, has been a core supporter of ITSO for many years. Indeed David Ellis, the company’s Director of Technology, has been a key player in developing the ticketing technologies that are helping to deliver the ITSO Parkeon Logo 500x180vision, and he remains a leading member of the ITSO Supplier Forum.
